Frequently asked questions
Dorm beds typically measure 6-8 inches in thickness. For these beds, we recommend using standard-sized fitted sheets. These sheets are designed to match the size of the mattress and can comfortably accommodate both the mattress and our Sleepyhead 2-3 inch mattress toppers. We recommend sheets that are 10-12 inches deep.
For off-campus beds we suggest using deep sheets, 12-15 inches, if the bed is thicker than 10-inches without the topper.
Mattress pads and protectors have the potential to trap heat and moisture, creating an environment conducive to mold and mildew growth. If you choose to use a mattress pad or protector, you'll need to clean your topper cover twice as often as you would without the protector. Our topper covers are designed to provide both protection and comfort independently. However, combining either item with our topper can hinder the benefits of the topper itself.
If cleanliness or spill prevention is a concern, regular cleaning of a protector will be necessary.
While some individuals may be more sensitive to smells than others, we take pride in the minimal scent of our toppers. If you do detect a slight odor, we recommend airing out the topper for 24-72 hours before use. Our customer reviews serve as additional assurance that Sleepyhead's products do not have any lingering odors.

The expansion time of Sleepyhead Mattress Toppers can range from 30 minutes to 12 hours. However, you can sleep on it right away without harming the material.
Our topper cover is not waterproof because it would compromise breathability of the cover and overall benefits of the foam. The covers are machine washable and can be dried on low heat. However, please note that the foam cannot be machine washed.
Our 3-inch toppers are an excellent choice for side sleepers seeking additional comfort and protection on a dorm mattress, making them a popular option among students. Alternatively, our 2-inch topper is ideal for individuals who prefer a medium-firm sleep experience or for those with height restrictions on top bunks.
